Skill level - Beginner
This tutorial will show the first time user how to set the most basic operations in DX Studio. How to open a new scene, where to find meshes and many more basic tasks.
Subjects covered:
Opening new 3D scene
Opening new 2D scene
Open the Script Editor
Alternative way to open script
Access the mesh default script
Add a new Objects to you scene.
Open a new 3D or 2D scene
When you open Dx studio you are welcomed with the document level of the editor. It is from here that youcreate your 3D and 2D scenes.
Initially you are mainly interested in the green plus icon at the bottom right of the editor. It is from this icon
that you launch either 3D or 2D scenes.
a) Click the Green Icon and you will see this New Scene window.
b) To start a new 3D scene, click the Create a new 3D scene text and a new 3D scene will be added to your document and automatically opens ready for you to work on.
You will notice that the new window has opened on a tab in the editor. To close this scene click the x in the
tab.
c) Close this 3D scene now by clicking on the close icon. You will now return to the main document level.
Please notice the scenes section on the lower right shows your new 3D scene. If you need to re open this
scene just double click on the scene name.
d) The 2D scene works in just the same way, start as you did for the 3D scene only this time choose 2D
e) The 2D scene is very similar to the 3D but this time is set up for 2D work. Again this scene opens on a tab.
Adding an Object to your Scene
Open your 3D scene and head on down to the resources pane ( lower left ) and select the meshes tabClick the green add icon and select the online Library
From the library select any mesh and download it. This mesh will now show up in your meshes pane. If it is
not showing in the editor scene, just drag it over from the meshes pane.
The Script Editor
a) There are a few ways to open the script editor. The easiest for now is to click on the script icon in the tool barClick on this icon and the script editor will open.
b) An alternative way to open a script is to RMB on the object and select Edit Script. This will open the
script editor with the selected objects script open and ready for editing.
c) To Edit a meshes default script you must first select the mesh then RMB and select Edit Default Script
The Mesh default script overrides any instanced objects script.
If the object has a script and you make another instance of the mesh as a new object, the previous objects
script will not effect the new object, the scripts are independent.
But if you set the mesh to have a default script, all objects that are instanced from this mesh will share
the default script, and can not have there own independent scripts. This will become clear as you work through
the many tutorial on the DX Studio wiki or in the DXU magazine.
